Council Rock South Students Win Top Awards in Scholastic Art and Writing Contest

Since 1923, the Scholastic Art & Writing Awards have rec­og­nized the vision, inge­nu­ity, and tal­ent of our nation’s youth and pro­vid­ed oppor­tu­ni­ties for cre­ative teens to be cel­e­brat­ed. Through the Scholastic Awards, teens in grades 7–12 from pub­lic, pri­vate, or home schools can apply in 29 cat­e­gories of art and writ­ing for their chance to earn schol­ar­ships and have their works exhib­it­ed and published.

Congratulations to the fol­low­ing CR stu­dents for their out­stand­ing accom­plish­ments in the Scholastic Art and Writing Competition.

Senior Kiley Malloy of Council Rock High School South received a Gold Key in the Writing Portfolio cat­e­go­ry for her sub­mis­sion enti­tled “Running, Returning.” Junior Sarah Langer received 3 Gold Keys; in the Poetry cat­e­go­ry, Sarah won for her sub­mis­sions enti­tled “Melody” and “Au Revoir”. In the Humorous Writing cat­e­go­ry, she won for her essay enti­tled “Ferocious Fours.”

Kiley also received 3 Silver Keys in the cat­e­gories of Poetry, Personal Essay, and Memoir. Sarah received 2 Silver Keys in the Poetry and Critical Essay categories.

Sophomores Shivani Kumar, Lauren Pierce, Gregory Scelzi, Lea Wang, Kelsey Joy Nazaruk, and Juniors Kate VanBilliard, and Megan Castonguay all won Silver Keys in the Personal Essay and Memoir cat­e­go­ry. Castonguay also received a Silver Key in Poetry for her work enti­tled “Human Nature.”

Sophomore Sahil Patel received 2 Honorable Mention awards in the Personal Essay and Memoir cat­e­go­ry, and Isabella Selekman was award­ed an Honorable Mention in the same category.

Student artist Camille Di Amico won 2 Honorable Mention awards from the Philadelphia Art Region Affiliate for her Pastel sub­mis­sion enti­tled “Momento Mori.”od Key hon­orees will be hon­ored at the 2020 Scholastic Art and Writing Awards cer­e­mo­ny this April.
