The 2020 Academic Oversight Committee’s No-Go Bristol Fall Classic Raffle a Success!

Bristol Borough — The 2020 Academic Oversight Committee’s No-Go Bristol Fall Classic Raffle turned out to be the Way to Go, Bristol Borough! 418 raffle tickets were sold, enabling the funding of academic enrichment programs for Bristol Borough public and parochial schools to continue this year.
Winning ticket holders drawn live during a December 8th, 2020 Zoom event were Fred Baumgarten/Grundy Commons, Patrick Mulhern, and St Mark School faculty.
In 2020, grants totaling $10,023.26 were funded by the Academic Oversight Committee. Recipients were students (and families) attending learning centers at Bristol High School, Warren Snyder-John Girotti Elementary and St. Mark schools.
Student academic progress is on the horizon. An unaudited analysis of 2016 – 2019 Pennsylvania System of School Assessment (the “PSSA”) data suggests Bristol Borough School District students are not far from attaining state proficient and advanced levels. Well-developed curricula and staffing resources can drive these gains, as was done in Bristol Borough School District in the early 1980s.
Data analyzed for the same period from the 21st Century Learning Centers suggest students can flourish in and out of the classroom. Grant programs challenge students academically, and with our help — and yours! — educational opportunities not readily available to many by grants are provided.
21st Century Learning Centers and Academic Oversight Committee instruction focus on issues that often prevent academic success including student physical and mental health problems, isolation, bullying, and limitations on professional and parental support.
Our “All Our Children” program is designed to remedy these impediments. Open gyms, a health fair, after-school tutoring, and a Bristol Borough-wide social media campaign to highlight positive happenings in our schools are but a few examples of this program at work. This added value of educating the “whole child” cannot be underestimated.
Our fingers are crossed for our annual Jazz on the River Concert, this year tentatively scheduled for Friday, June 25, 2021. For updates on this event and others, log on to our website at www.bblearningcenters.com .
