Bristol Middle/Senior High School Is AVID Strong

Bristol High School is begin­ning it’s sec­ond year of AVID imple­men­ta­tion.  What is “AVID”? AVID stands for Advancement Via Individual Determination and is a pro­gram for “mid­dle to upper mid­dle” aca­d­e­m­ic stu­dents. These stu­dents have the poten­tial for hon­ors and AP® work in high school but can ben­e­fit from addi­tion­al aca­d­e­m­ic and orga­ni­za­tion­al sup­port. AVID com­bines accel­er­a­tion with sup­port that includes the student’s own indi­vid­ual deter­mi­na­tion and the sup­port of teach­ers, tutors, oth­er AVID stu­dents, and the AVID elec­tive teacher. areas of con­cern for that grade lev­el and pro­vide stu­dents with skills for study­ing, how to over­come points of con­fu­sion, how to advo­cate for them­selves at school and in the work­place, and how to pre­pare for col­lege and careers. AVID cre­ates a struc­ture from which a school can rein­force the use of best teach­ing prac­tices and proven method­olo­gies to stu­dents in middle/junior high and high schools. AVID’s goal is to pre­pare all stu­dents for col­lege and career readiness.
