The Bucks IU Mobile FAB LAB has figured out how to make virtual learning fun and FABulous! The program developed and offered two weeks of summer camp and has over 150 campers participating.
Campers all received their own personal CAMP BOX, shipped directly to their home prior to the start of camp. Each box included everything they will need to participate, including activity guides. Each week of camp included a set of three core activities; one engineering, one science, and one coding based. Additionally, campers received a set of three optional activities. All activities offered both ‘no tech’ or ‘low tech’ options to allow students to experiment and experience at the level at which they are most comfortable. BONUS: Every camp box included an Ozobot robot (a $100 value)!
Week one’s camp theme was ‘Going Places’. Campers’ imaginations took off as they created balloon-powered vehicles, rocket launchers, and coded their Ozobot! Camp Boxes included either a copy of Going Places by Peter and Paul Reynolds or an assortment of exciting short articles specially selected to inspire and encourage their imaginations!
Week two’s camp theme was ‘The Great Outdoors.’ Campers’ imaginations let them explore the outdoors with this week’s activities including coding their Ozobot to explore the outdoors with them! Camp Boxes included either a book or assortment of exciting short articles specially selected to let their imaginations run wild in the wild!
Lots of fun and learning marked this virtual STEAM Online Summer Camp a great success.
