Boehm Re-Certified as National School of Character

Kudos to the entire Charles Boehm Middle School community for recent re-certification as a National School of Character by Character.org. Boehm was the first of all of the Pennsbury schools to achieve this distinction five years ago, and it continues to lead the way with this re-certified status.

It is such an honor to be recognized a second time as being a National School of Character,” said Travis Bloom, Principal of Charles Boehm. “We take great PRIDE in the fact that Charles Boehm Middle School lives the Boehm PRIDE slogan each day. From the community outreach programs to our everyday kindness activities, our students, parents, and staff had the opportunity to share how we bring the 11 Character Principles alive at Charles Boehm for a site visitor from Character.org. We are so proud of this recognition and look forward to continuing our character education program with current and future Boehm students!”

Each year, Character.org certifies schools and districts at the state and national levels that demonstrate a focus on character development. Research shows this has a positive effect on academic achievement, student behavior, and school climate. Schools designated as National Schools of Character are joining the ranks of Character.org’s highest distinction.

Doug Karr, Character.org’s President & CEO, said, “These schools’ representatives, including educators, parents, and students, are working together to create stronger communities focused on character. We are honored to validate their efforts and continue coaching them along their journeys.“

Character.org will honor Charles Boehm and the other designated schools and districts at the 2019 National Forum to be held Oct. 24 through Oct. 27 in Washington, D.C. Criteria for selection are based on Character.org’s 11 Principles of Effective Character, which include providing students with opportunities for moral action, fostering shared leadership, and engaging families and communities as partners in the character-building effort.

Founded in 1993, Character.org is a national nonprofit based in Washington, D.C. It is dedicated to growth and success through the advancement of quality character development in schools and communities through programs and resources.

Pennsbury holds the distinction of being a National District of Character and each of its 14 schools has also been named a National School of Character by Character.org.
